Anxiety? Depression? Achy Joints? Check Your Gut.

What of the most common symptoms patients check off on their intake forms is anxiety an/or depression.

Often times they can’t clearly articulate why they have those symptoms. Usually, it’s chalked off to the everyday stresses of life – jobs, kids, deadlines, this and that.

While nearly everyone will have some bouts of anxiety and depression in life, being continually worn down from constant anxiety and depression is obviously not healthy or normal.

Sure, there will always be tough stretches of life, but every human is capable of finding contentment in life.

In western society we’ve been taught that anxiety/depression is genetic and simply an imbalance of brain chemicals.

This idea is outdated and not backed by the preponderance of scientific evidence.

Depression and anxiety are MOSTLY driven by inflammation caused by poor lifestyle habits OVER TIME.

Again, I’m not minimizing or negating folks who have truly endured challenges in life, but underneath all of the events that occur over our lives, is the underlying health of our body that dictates how vulnerable we are to disease, including depression and anxiety, and how resilient we are at overcoming it.

Particularly, the health of our gut, as I’ve written about here.

We KNOW inflammation of the gut leads to inflammation in all other areas of the body.

Gut inflammation disrupts our body’s production and regulation of hormones and chemicals that help us feel good, stay motivated, and remain content.

To truly give ourselves the best chance at avoiding disease, depression, and anxiety, we NEED to invest time and effort into our health and wellbeing, and a good starting point is to make sure everything you put into your body is not damaging your gut.

One simple thing that helps heal our gut is bone broth. Research has shown bone broth, and the collagen found in it, can substantially lower inflammation in the gut. Even better than the leading drugs.

I’m a huge fan of making bone broth and trying to drink a cup or two daily.

Collagen protein is another way to get the benefits of bone broth for those who can’t seem to find time to make it.

Putting daily effort into supporting your body’s health pays huge dividends long-term!
