The Dangers of Vegetable and Seed Oils: Inflammation and Cardiovascular Health

Did you know that excessive consumption of vegetable and seed oils could be harming your cardiovascular health?

These commonly used oils, such as soybean, corn, sunflower, peanut, canola, and safflower oil, contain high levels of omega-6 fatty acids.

While our bodies need a balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, the modern diet often tilts the scale heavily towards omega-6.

Excessive amounts of these specific omega-6 fatty acids found in vegetable and seed oils, break down into toxic metabolites and by-products in our bodies, inducing inflammatory processes in our tissues.

This imbalance can lead to chronic inflammation in the body, including our arteries.

Inflammation plays a key role in the development of cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis.

When our arteries are inflamed, arterial plaque can build up over time, restricting blood flow and increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

To promote a healthier heart, it’s important to minimize our intake of these oils.

Instead, opt for healthier alternatives like grass-fed beef tallow, butter, coconut oil, and pure extra virgin olive oil, which have lower omega-6 content, and are more stable under higher temps.

Incorporate omega-3-rich foods, such as wild caught fatty fish like salmon, grass-fed meats, and raw grass-fed dairy.

By making these simple changes, you can protect your arteries (and other tissues) and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Yes, I know, it is hard to stop eating snacks like chips, granola bars, cookies, candy, etc. etc. Even “healthy” snacks (as they advertise on the packaging) are often loaded with these inflammatory oils.

While one does not need to be PERFECT with every food choice in life, habitually eating these toxic, inflammatory, ultra-processed, industrial vegetable and seed oils is going to make the likelihood of poor health outcomes increase significantly.

Remember, always consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.

Take charge of your heart health today and make informed choices for a healthier future!

  1. Great article Dr Arns, My Homeopathic always tells me no nut or seed oils but I didn’t know why.
I thought you aren’t supposed to use extra virgin olive oil for higher heat; because it oxidizes ? Where do you purchase beef tallow? What about duck fat? Grass fed Ghee?
Thank you for all the information.

    1. Hi Deb!

Generally, I always use animal fats under high heat, because other oils/fats are more prone to heat induced oxidation.

There has been some research showing that good quality olive oil has antioxidants that protect it from heat damage, but again, I still try to use tallow/butter/ghee.

I’ve been getting tallow from Thousand Hills: https://thousandhillslifetimegrazed.com/product/tallow-premium-cooking-fat/

Ghee I’ve ordered online through Thrive Marketplace, although it seems to be more widely available in common grocery stores.

      Appreciate you reading!
